SURGERY FAQs

Common Peri-Operative Questions Answered Below. 

If you still have questions before or after surgery, please call us at our clinic (phone number above), or message me on Epic. 

  • Where do I show up for surgery?
    Dr. Smith operates at either: - Center for Orthopaedic Surgery (COS), Surgery Center 134 Professional Park Dr, Rock Hill, SC 29732 - Atrium Health Pineville Hospital 10628 Park Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210 Surgical scheduling will call you to schedule your surgery and tell you the location. Often location is dictated by insurance carrier. Time of surgery varies as urgent cases come in throughout the day leading to your surgery date. You will be notified of your surgery time a couple days or the day before your surgery via phone call.
  • Pre-Operative Nutrition
    Dr. Smith recommends taking the following supplements/diet before surgery: - Pre-Operative High Protein / Immunosupport Shake (10 days leading up to surgery) - Goal is (1-2g / kg body weight / day) -Example: (200lb male will need 90-180g of protein per day, each of the 10 days leading up to surgery) (130lb female will need 60-120g of protein per day, each of the 10 days leading up to surgery) - Pre-Operative Carbohydrate Drink (1 shake night before surgery, and another 2 hours before surgery) - Vitamin D supplementation (2,000-5,000IU/day) Research evidence for the above demonstrating enhanced recovery after surgery.
  • Post-Operative Nutrition
    Dr. Smith recommends continuing to supplement your diet to support your healing after surgery. - Post-Operative High Protein / Immunosupport Shake (4-6 weeks after surgery) - Goal is (2-3g / kg body weight / day) -Example: (200lb male will need 180-270g of protein per day) (130lb female will need 120-180g of protein per day) - Vitamin D supplementation (2,000-5,000IU/day) (30 days after surgery) Research evidence for the above demonstrating enhanced recovery after surgery.
  • When and Where do I show up for surgery?
    Dr. Smith operates at either: - Center for Orthopaedic Surgery (COS), Surgery Center 134 Professional Park Dr, Rock Hill, SC 29732 - Atrium Health Pineville Hospital 10628 Park Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210 Surgical scheduling will call you to schedule your surgery and tell you the location. You will be notified of your surgery time a couple days or the day before your surgery via phone call. Generally, you will want to show up 2 HOURS, prior to your scheduled surgical time.
